Support independent publishing: buy this book on Lulu. The third revision of the Matter history book, dated November 2011, is now available. Both B&W and Color can be purchased directly from our online publisher.

I expect to release a new revision of this book every two years. Please submit any additions, corrections, or improvements (pictures, stories, etc.).

Thank you all for helping to make this family history so complete. I'm sure Michael and Fredericke Matter, who brought their five children to America in 1841, would have a hard time believing that their family now numbers over 6000!

Facebook My Facebook account accepts only family members as "friends". Request me as a friend and you may find your own family, but keep in mind that not everyone related to me is related to you. You will also be able to preview the entire Matter book, as well as other pictures.
We are always looking for additions and corrections, and especially photos, old and new. If you have any questions or comments about the information on this site, please contact us at We look forward to hearing from you!

"In reading your letter of those that passed away it brings to my mind more vividly, that those of us that are still enjoying life must also pass into the great beyond and to be gradually forgotten until after a generation, we are entirely lost track of."
